The Poet
About Sheila McRoy
After years of searching for that “perfect” card to express her feelings for family and friends — and being unable to find anything that captured what she truly wanted to say — Sheila searched her heart and began writing and designing her own cards and gifts.
Faith in God, the blessings of family, and the joys of friendship have been the inspiration for her work.

Behind the Verse
Where the Poems Come From
Each piece carries a true story — written in seasons of joy, loss, friendship, and faith.
The Lilac Tree
Written for a cousin who felt something left undone after his father’s death. Sheila sent the poem with a lilac tree to plant in memory — and has heard for years how families “bury their sorrow beneath the lilac tree.”
Best Friend
Begun as a reflection on the friendship found in Sheila’s faith in Jesus, then recognized as a portrait of dear friends and family.
They Tell Me You’re in Heaven
Written for Sheila’s dad, who passed two months after a cancer diagnosis. She held his hand as he went home — and the poem continues to comfort others walking the same road.
Forgive & Forget
Forgive & Forget was written when two of my sisters were having a disagreement and both were convinced that they were right! As usual, they used me as a sounding board. As I listened to them ‘vent’, I wrote this poem and gave a copy to each of them. (I’m pleased to announce they quickly settled their differences.)
Before I Could Hold You
Before I Could Hold You was written after someone dear to me suffered a miscarriage. When a mother loses a child, our hearts go out to her, and we do all we can to comfort her. I wanted to write something that would remind us that the loss of an unborn child is no less painful.
Daily Prayer
Daily Prayer is about personal pride, humiliation and dependence upon God.
Encouragement
Encouragement was written for a friend who had confidence in me when I lacked it in myself.
I’ll Hold Your Hand
I’ll Hold Your Hand was inspired by my personal need for encouragement and comfort from someone who could allow me to express myself without trying to analyze or judge my feelings or reactions. I wrote this poem for a friend who fulfilled this need.
Jesus Died for Me
Jesus Died for Me was written as a testimony of the absolute meaning of unconditional love & sacrifice.
Let Me Shine
Let Me Shine reminds me that true joy and contentment come when we are serving and caring for others.
Miracles
Miracles was written because of the pain & confusion I experienced after the deaths of my siblings and other personal tragedies. Only through complete surrender and trust in the Lord am I able to experience the miracle of peace and joy in my heart. (We never fail to recognize the tragedies in our lives, but we often overlook the miracles that follow.)
Missing You
Missing You was written after my brother and sister passed away, as a reminder that even though I will always miss them, they are never more than a “heartbeat” away!
Special Friend
Special Friend was written for someone very, very dear to my heart. Her gentle spirit and sincere heart have enriched my life in ways that could only be expressed through poetry. She truly is a special gift from the Lord!
The Scrub Oak Tree
The Scrub Oak Tree is a reminder that it’s what’s inside of us that counts. GOD cares about the condition of our hearts, not our outward appearance. It is the nature of man to seek things that are pleasant to our eyes, but it’s when we take a deeper look that we find true beauty.
